How Credits Are Deducted for Tasks

Credits are the currency you use on RemoteGenies to pay for your Genie's time. The amount deducted depends on three things: the Genie's experience level, the hourly rate tied to that experience, and the number of hours worked.

How Deduction Rates Work

Every Genie has an hourly rate based on their years of experience. When you hire a Genie, credits are consumed at that hourly rate against the value of your plan.

Your plan determines how much each dollar of credit is worth in time. The deduction rate is calculated as:

Credits deducted per hour = Genie's hourly rate ÷ your plan's hourly value

This means the same Genie costs proportionally more or fewer credits depending on which plan you're on — but the dollar value behind the deduction stays consistent.

Genie Hourly Rates by Experience

Genies are categorized by years of experience, and each band has a fixed hourly rate:

ExperienceHourly Rate (USD)
0–2 years$6.50
3–5 years$8.50
6–7 years$10.00
7–12 years$15.00
13–15+ years$20.00

These rates apply across all plan types — Pay As You Go, Advanced, and Top Tier.

Deduction Rates by Plan

The rate at which credits are consumed per hour depends on your active plan. Below are the deduction rates per experience band for the main plan types.

Pay As You Go

ExperienceGenie RateCredit Deduction per Hour
0–2 years$6.50$6.50
3–5 years$8.50$8.50
6–7 years$10.00$10.00

Advanced Plan

ExperienceGenie RateCredit Deduction per Hour
0–2 years$6.50$6.50
3–5 years$8.50$8.50
6–7 years$10.00$10.00

Top Tier Plan

ExperienceGenie RateCredit Deduction per Hour
0–2 years$6.50$6.50
3–5 years$8.50$8.50
6–7 years$10.00$10.00
7–12 years$15.00$15.00
13–15+ years$20.00$20.00

Note: Top Tier plans give you access to Genies with 7+ years of experience, which carry higher deduction rates. Pay As You Go and Advanced plans cover Genies up to 7 years of experience.

Free Credits ($20 Welcome Credits)

New clients receive $20 in free credits upon registration. These work like regular credits with a few specifics:

  • Used first. Free credits are always consumed before your paid plan credits. If your free credits run out mid-task, the remainder is drawn from your paid balance.
  • Same deduction rates. Free credits are deducted at the same rates as the Pay As You Go plan.
  • Expire after 30 days from the date you claim them.
  • Apply to all Genie tiers, including higher-experience Genies — though higher-rate Genies will consume the $20 faster.

When Credits Are Checked and Deducted

When listing a task: Before a task moves from Draft to Listed, the system checks whether you have enough credits. If you don't, the task stays in Draft and you'll see: "Insufficient credits to list this task."

When creating a subtask: The system validates your remaining credits against the subtask's time estimate before the subtask is created.

When adding hours to a task: If you increase the estimated hours on an active task, the system checks whether your balance covers the additional time before confirming the change.

Credit Order of Consumption

When a task is listed or hours are confirmed, credits are drawn in this order:

  1. Free credits (if any remain)
  2. Paid plan credits

If neither source has enough to cover the full amount, the action is blocked.

Checking Your Balance

Your current credit balance is visible on your dashboard. The graph updates as credits are consumed or topped up.
