Getting Started
What is RemoteGenies? RemoteGenies is a Filipino freelance marketplace where clients hire pre-vetted Filipino freelancers called Genies. Every Genie is screened before being allowed to work on client tasks. Each task also comes with a dedicated Project Coordinator who manages communication, progress tracking, and accountability.
How is RemoteGenies different from Upwork or Fiverr?
| Feature | RemoteGenies | Upwork / Fiverr |
|---|---|---|
| Talent quality | 100% pre-vetted Filipino freelancers | Open marketplace — anyone can join |
| Accountability | Dedicated Project Coordinator per task | No built-in coordinator |
| Hiring model | Task-based with bidding from matched Genies | Open bidding or pre-priced gigs |
| Social impact | GenieScholar: every 200 hours worked funds a year of education for a Filipino child | None |
What happens after I sign up? When you visit the dashboard for the first time, a walkthrough will guide you through the key features. After completing the walkthrough, you may also be prompted to claim a free credit bonus to get started.
Finding and Hiring Genies
How do I find a Genie? After logging in, you are directed to the Genie Search. You can browse profiles and post a task to receive bids from matched Genies.
How does the bidding process work?
- Post a task — it starts in Draft status.
- Move the task to Listed. Only Listed tasks can receive bids.
- Matched Genies submit proposals including estimated hours and a brief on why they are the right fit.
- Review each bid under the Applicants tab inside your task page.
- Message any Genie before deciding, or view their full profile and bid proposal.
- Click Hire next to your chosen Genie and agree to the Client–Genie Agreement to confirm.
Can I invite a specific Genie to bid? Yes. From the matched and invited Genies sidebar, you can invite a Genie to bid or resend an invitation if they have not responded yet.
Can I see if a Genie has a video introduction? Yes. Genie profile cards show an indicator if a video intro is available. Click the profile photo to play it.
Task Management
What are the task statuses? Tasks move through the following stages:
- Draft — task created but not yet visible to Genies
- Listed — task is live and accepting bids
- Awaiting Resources — task is assigned; waiting for resources to proceed
- In Progress — Genie is actively working
- Blocked — work is paused due to an issue
- Pending Review — Genie has submitted output; awaiting your review
- Completed — you have approved the output
- Cancelled — task was cancelled before or after work began
You receive email notifications when your task moves between statuses.
How do I review and approve a Genie's work?
- When your Genie submits output, the task moves to Pending Review.
- Open the task and go to the Chat tab to view the submitted files, links, or notes.
- Download and review the deliverables.
- If revisions are needed, message your Genie directly in Chat.
- Once satisfied, change the task status to Completed.
- You will then be prompted to rate your Genie.
What is the 7-day holding period? After a task is marked Completed, a 7-day window opens for disputes or revision requests. If no dispute is raised within 7 days, the task is considered final and payment is released to the Genie. Once a task is closed, disputes cannot be raised retroactively.
How do I rate my Genie? After marking a task Completed, you will be prompted to leave feedback:
- Overall satisfaction (1–5 stars)
- Experience tags (e.g., Delivered on Time, Clear Communication, Attention to Detail, Proactive Approach, Delayed Submission, Unresponsive, Requested Extension, Not Following Instructions)
- Optional written comments
Be as specific as possible — your feedback helps your Genie improve and helps other clients make informed hiring decisions.
Can I cancel a task?
- Before work begins: All unused credits for that task are returned to your account, provided no billable hours have been logged and no deliverables submitted.
- After work has begun: Credits are deducted for hours already worked; unused reserved credits are returned. If the cancellation is due to underperformance, your Project Coordinator will investigate and recommend a course of action.
To cancel: go to Your Tasks on the dashboard, select the task, click Cancel Task, and provide a reason. Your Project Coordinator will review and confirm the outcome.
Note: repeated cancellations without valid cause may affect your future task postings.
Payment and Invoicing
How does payment work on RemoteGenies? Credits are purchased in advance and held until a task is completed and approved. After the 7-day holding period, credits are released to the Genie.
What payment options are available? RemoteGenies offers two models:
- Pay-as-You-Go — purchase a block of credits as needed, no subscription required. Credits expire at the end of the billing cycle.
- Subscription (Monthly or Annual) — commit to a plan for lower hourly rates and credit rollover benefits.
For current pricing on all plans, visit the FAQ for Clients page or the Help Center.
Where can I view my invoices and billing history? From your dashboard, go to Invoice and Payment. You can access your billing history, view invoices, and make payments there.
What is my credit balance and where do I see it? Your dashboard shows your Credit Balance, which includes your current subscription status, running hours, remaining credits, and on-hold hours.
Disputes
How do I raise a dispute? If you are not satisfied with the completed output, raise a dispute within 7 calendar days of the task being marked Completed. Once raised, your Project Coordinator and Project Manager will review the case, which may involve placing the task On Hold and reopening it for revisions.
If no dispute is raised within 7 days, the task closes and payment is released — this cannot be reversed.
What if I disagree with the outcome? The Coordinator and Project Manager gather information from both parties, assess the evidence, and determine the fairest resolution. Credits may be held until the dispute is resolved.
Trust and Safety
Can I hire a Genie outside of RemoteGenies? No. Taking work outside of RemoteGenies is a direct violation of the Terms of Service and may result in account suspension or permanent removal.
The non-solicitation rule requires that:
- All payments are processed through the platform for two years after your first connection with a Genie through RemoteGenies.
- You may not bypass RemoteGenies to work together privately or set up direct arrangements.
- Personal contact details (email, phone, social media) must not be shared before a task is officially assigned. Use GenieChat for all communication.
Violations may result in account suspension, permanent removal, or legal action — including payment of a buyout fee where applicable.
