Understand How the Bidding Process Works as a Client
How the Bidding Process Works
When you post a task on RemoteGenies, qualified Genies submit bid proposals for you to review. Here's how the full process works, from listing your task to hiring a Genie.
Step 1: List Your Task and Invite Genies
Before your task goes live, you need to invite at least one Genie to bid. You cannot move a task to Open for Bid status without sending at least one invitation.
To do this:
- Fill in your task's required fields.
- Click Invite Genies to open the invitation screen.
- Select at least one Genie, then click Open for Bid.
If you try to proceed without selecting anyone, you'll see: "Should invite at least 1 genie."
You can invite up to 10 Genies to bid on a single task.
Note: Your task must have sufficient credits before it can move to Open for Bid status. If your balance is too low, the system will block the status change and display an error.
Step 2: Genies Submit Bid Proposals
Once your task is Open for Bid, invited Genies can submit proposals. Each bid includes:
| Proposal Element | Details |
|---|---|
| Bid Hours | The number of hours the Genie estimates the task will take (1–100 hours) |
| Fit Description | A written explanation of why they're the right Genie for your task (up to 500 characters) |
| Related Skillsets | Relevant skills from their profile (optional) |
| Portfolio Items | Up to 3 portfolio samples they choose to highlight (optional) |
Genies cannot see other Genies' bids, and they cannot comment on or modify your task details.
Step 3: You Receive a Notification
Each time a Genie submits a bid, you'll receive an email notification. You can then log in to review the proposal.
Step 4: Review and Compare Bids
From your task page, you can:
- Review each Genie's bid hours, proposal, skillsets, and portfolio
- Compare proposals side by side
- Request a short interview (up to 15 minutes) with a Genie before deciding
- Adjust the task's time estimate based on what you and a Genie agree on
Your Project Coordinator is already assigned to your task at this stage and can assist if you need help evaluating bids. Message them directly from the task page.
Step 5: Hire a Genie
When you've found the right fit, hire them directly from their bid proposal. Once hired:
- Credits are put on hold for the task
- A dedicated bid chat channel opens between you and the Genie
- Work begins
If You Change Your Mind Before Hiring
If your task is Open for Bid and no one has submitted a bid yet, you can move it back to Draft status. Once a bid has been submitted, you can no longer move the task back to Draft.
