Collaborate With Your Genie and Project Coordinator in GenieChat
GenieChat is your central workspace once a Genie is assigned to your task. All communication, files, and project updates live here — shared between you, your Genie, and your dedicated project coordinator.
How to Access GenieChat
Open your task from the Task Board or Dashboard. At the top of the task page, click the Chat tab to open the conversation.
You can also open a chat slider directly from within the task view by clicking the Chat button on the task page. The slider opens from the right side of the screen so you can message without leaving the task.
What You Can Do in GenieChat
Send and Receive Messages
- Type your message in the input box and press Enter or click Send.
- Messages appear instantly with the sender's name and timestamp.
- Messages are ordered chronologically with date separators so you can follow the thread.
- If a message fails to send, you'll see an error with a retry option.
- Incoming messages appear in real time — no refresh needed.
Format Your Messages
Use the formatting toolbar in the input box to apply:
- Bold, italic, underline
- Lists
- Emojis
- Links
Attach Files and Media
Click the attachment icon in the chat input to upload images, documents, or other files. Uploaded files appear in the conversation with the file name and can be downloaded directly.
All shared files are also organized in the Files & Media panel on the right sidebar, grouped by type: Media, Documents, Audio, and Links. Click any file to preview or open it in a new tab.
Send Voice Notes
Click the voice recorder icon to record and send a voice note. Recipients see a waveform with playback controls — play, pause, and duration.
Start a Video Call
You can initiate a video call with your Genie and project coordinator directly from GenieChat. All chat members receive the call invite in real time.
Navigating Your Conversations
The left sidebar lists all your conversations, grouped into:
- Pinned chats
- Task chats
- Direct messages
Click any conversation to open it. Your active chat is highlighted.
When you open GenieChat, it loads the chat for your current active task by default. If there's no active task, it loads the most recent conversation.
Seeing Who's in the Chat
The Members panel shows all participants with their name, role (Client or Genie), and online status. A green indicator means they're currently active.
Linked Task Status
The chat sidebar also shows tasks linked to the conversation, including their current status. You can click a task's status to update it via a dropdown, or click the task itself to go to its detail page.
Email Notifications
If you're not in the platform when a message is sent, you'll receive an email notification with the sender's name and a snippet of the message. You can click directly to your inbox from the email.
You'll also receive an email if you miss a video call.
Mentions
Use @mentions in the chat to notify a specific person. They'll receive an email notification so nothing gets missed.
Direct Messages
You can also send a direct message to a Genie outside of a task — from their profile or portfolio page. Direct messages appear in the Direct Messages section of your conversation list.
Tips for Keeping Communication Clean
- Use GenieChat for real-time discussion, quick questions, and file sharing.
- Your project coordinator is inside every task chat — they're there to keep things on track, not just observe.
- All platform communication is required to stay in GenieChat. Personal contact details cannot be shared before a contract is in place, per RemoteGenies' non-solicitation policy.
