Understand the One-Active-Task Rule as a Genie

Can you work on multiple tasks at once?

No. You can only have one active task at a time on RemoteGenies.

When a task is assigned to you and set to In Progress, the platform enforces a single-task constraint. Your current task must be Closed before you can begin work on another one.

Why this rule exists

The platform is built around accurate time tracking, quality delivery, and clear accountability. Running concurrent tasks creates overlap in timer logs, makes it harder for your Project Coordinator to monitor progress, and increases the risk of missed deadlines or degraded output.

What you can do while your task is active

You are not blocked from bidding. While your current task is still open, you can:

  • Browse available tasks that match your skillset
  • Submit bids on upcoming tasks
  • Accept invitations to bid

This way, once your current task is closed, you can move directly into the next one without a gap.

Task status flow to keep in mind

Your task moves through statuses: In Progress → Revision → Completed → Closed. You are considered "active" on a task until it reaches Closed status. A task that is Completed but not yet Closed still counts as your active task.

Timer and hours tracking

Each task has its own timer. You start, pause, and track time within the task dashboard. Your bid hours represent the committed hours to complete the task. If you need more time than originally bid, you can request a time extension from within the task — the client must approve it before you can log additional hours.
