Improve Your Chances of Getting Hired on RemoteGenies
Clients on RemoteGenies have several ways to find and evaluate Genies before making a hiring decision. Understanding how that process works gives you a clear advantage.
How Clients Find and Evaluate You
When a client posts a task, the platform automatically surfaces the most relevant Genies based on three factors:
- Skillset relevance — how closely your registered skills match the task requirements
- Years of experience — more experience moves you higher in results
- Rating score — your average rating across completed tasks
Genies who score well across all three appear in the Top Match section — the first thing a client sees when reviewing applicants or browsing for Genies to invite. Getting into Top Match significantly increases your visibility.
Clients can also sort applicants by experience, rating, and bid amount. A strong profile paired with a competitive bid puts you in contention even if you're not in the Top Match section.
What Clients See on Your Profile
When a client clicks through to your profile, they can review:
- Overview — your introduction, skillset badges, and any earned badges
- Introduction video — if you've uploaded one, clients can watch it directly from your profile card. Profiles with an intro video are visually flagged so clients know it's available before they even click in.
- Work experience — job titles, companies, duration, and descriptions
- Portfolio — work samples with titles, descriptions, and downloadable or visual content
- Assessment results — scores or pass/fail results from any assessments you've completed
- Reviews — ratings and written feedback from past clients, including their names
- Completed tasks — a record of tasks you've finished on the platform
Every section is visible to clients. Gaps are also visible. An incomplete profile is a reason to skip you.
Practical Steps to Improve Your Chances
1. Complete every section of your profile. Don't leave work experience, portfolio, or assessments blank. Clients are comparing you against other applicants in a structured table — empty fields stand out.
2. Upload an introduction video. Profiles with a video intro are flagged with a visual indicator on your profile card, similar to a story ring. Clients notice this before they even open your profile. It's a low-effort way to stand out.
3. Keep your skillsets accurate and specific. The matching algorithm pairs you to tasks based on your registered skillsets. Vague or inaccurate skills will either exclude you from relevant tasks or match you to tasks you're not suited for — neither helps you.
4. Build and protect your rating. Rating is one of the three core factors in the Top Match algorithm and is visible in the applicant table. Clients can sort by rating. A higher rating means more visibility and more direct invitations.
5. Respond to invitations promptly. When a client invites you to bid or schedules an interview, you'll receive an email notification with the task details, date, and time. Slow responses signal low availability or low interest.
6. Submit a clear, relevant bid. Clients can sort applicants by bid amount. Your bid should reflect your actual rate and be competitive for the task scope — not just the lowest number.
The Interview Process
If a client wants to assess you further, they can invite you for an interview call directly from the platform. You'll get an email with:
- The task name
- The scheduled date and time
- Any additional notes from the client
Treat the interview invitation as a serious opportunity. Confirm promptly, show up prepared, and be ready to discuss the specific task.
