How the Genie Matching Process Works
When a client posts a task on RemoteGenies, the platform uses a search algorithm to surface the most relevant Genies for that task. Here's what you need to know about how that works — and what it means for your chances of being matched.
How the Search Algorithm Works
The search results that clients see are not random. The algorithm prioritizes Genies with completed profiles. If your profile is incomplete — missing expertise, skillsets, experience, or other key details — you will rank lower in search results, or may not appear at all.
Bottom line: a complete profile is your first and most important step toward being matched.
What Clients See When They Look for Genies
When a client posts a task and opens it for bids, they can browse and invite Genies directly. The invite screen surfaces top match Genies, tagged as "perfect match" based on how well your profile aligns with the task requirements.
Clients can filter by:
- Name — direct search
- Favorites — Genies they've saved
- Ratings — star rating filter
- Expertise — one or more expertise categories
- Skillsets — one or more specific skills
- Experience level — entry, mid, or expert
A client can invite up to 10 Genies per task. Being in that shortlist depends on how well your profile matches what they're looking for.
Ratings and How They Affect Visibility
Genies with no previous ratings do not display stars on their profile cards in search results. Stars only appear once you have actual ratings from completed tasks. This means new Genies won't have a misleading or placeholder rating shown — your card simply won't show a star rating until you've earned one.
What You Can Do to Improve Your Match Rate
- Complete your profile fully. The algorithm explicitly deprioritizes incomplete profiles. Fill in every section — expertise, skillsets, experience, rates, and your bio.
- Take your assessments. Skill assessments are part of the registration and vetting process and validate the skillsets listed on your profile.
- Deliver quality work and collect ratings. Client ratings directly affect your visibility in filtered searches and your "perfect match" status for future tasks.
- Keep your profile updated. If your skills or experience level have changed, update your profile so the algorithm has accurate data to work with.
How You Receive Task Opportunities
Once your profile is active and complete, you can be matched to tasks in two ways:
- A client invites you directly to bid on their task.
- You browse available tasks and submit a bid on your own.
Either way, your profile completeness and ratings are what determine whether clients find you — and whether the system surfaces you as a top match.
